Masha Danevasha Poems

Out of nowhere comes the dagger
Another stab into an old scar
From an opponent who decided to take no prisoners
Who thought that tough girl can take a punch
...

Here I sit staring into my pet abyss
A mind should be full of grander things then this
Stop the war, cure AIDS
Famine, nukes, world peace
...

Two bodies huddled together for warmth
Testing out a theory that skin on skin works best for the cause
An argument who should leave the cozy nest and make tea
I said, this is lazy love
...

Things that send souls alight hold you down like a stone
Jaded wings growing heavy before taking flight
Like a hermit at heart, who can not be alone
You are driven to those that won’t stay by your side
...

Cold chill fills the air
And seeps into your life
To remind you again
That you’re somebody’s wife
...

I’m tired of waiting for a wordsmith
To capture my immortal beauty in a verse
When one gets struck at last
And pays me homage
...

First poet in my bohemian menagerie
Diligent follower of the Tao of Steve
You offered me Hyperion, Smythewick and a good chase
And I was your escape from domestic boredom
...

So you don’t like guns
And want to free Tibet
Impeach the Texan bozo
And outlaw red meat
...

You look at the road
Wind shuffles the deck
In your back pocket
You got half a pack
...

I still have your book
And you have my clip
Now I know why you kept asking
If I always get what I want
...

A tumble into fallen oak leaves
Bear hugs in the anonymous motel rooms
That awful taquila
I'll never forget your gaze -
...

Will you loose all respect
If I was easy catch
Didn't tease or get coy
But skipped straight to home stretch
...

Whos' pride gets hurt
Whos' ego gets burnt
Who's the first to call
the first to crawl
...

That day when you decide that life was all for nothing
When the paint has peeled off oils on your walls
When your friends have left and won’t be returning
Maybe that day you’ll dropp by after all
...

My first heartbreak,
But this is not supposed to be about enduring jealousy
Defeat,
and being too proud to crumble first
...

Wind blowing papers through empty grey streets
Cement maw of an alley is gaped in a shout
Broken glass and spent bullets crunch under my feet
...

The kiss long awaited now tastes of cheap beer
And laughter replaces hurt ego's tears
The tryst is called off under silly pretext
The weight dissipates and lungs takes a full breath
...

Up and up
On shaky feet
Heart is pounding
Too tired to spit
...

First poet in my bohemian menagerie
Diligent follower of the Tao of Steve
You offered me strong hands, hard body
And that liquid, fiery stare
...

These pages could be filled
...

The Best Poem Of Masha Danevasha

A La Guerre Comme A La Guerre

Out of nowhere comes the dagger
Another stab into an old scar
From an opponent who decided to take no prisoners
Who thought that tough girl can take a punch
Shake off the pain
And swallow tears spiced with pride

Maybe you should have been more humble
And held back stories of battlefield prowess
Put down your visor, lured him in
And dealt the terminal blow
Instead of giving into wishful thinking
And baring your neck
Truth can be a tricky strategy in love and war
Candor makes for poor armor

The strike was coming but you didn't parry
You must be getting old
He dropped his blade and walked away
Retaliation is in order but only cowards strike in the back
You are no warrior, alone in this scorched field

So now you will retreat into the safety of your home
Into the stifling bosom of the family
Into the chill of the matrimonial bed
There, you will heal your ravaged heart
And come to wear the new scar with cynicism and pride

In time you'll start to venture out
And prey upon the weak and desperate
Mixing their egos with dirt

Soon you'll gain the confidence
And once again embark onto the path of war
To meet a worthy conqueror face to face
With secret hope that this time it won't be a slaughter
Dreaming of a bloodless surrender
So that as a captive of his love
You shall at last
Find peace

Masha, I agree with the other comments. You have a unique gift to convert experiential reality into poetic rhythm. I share the interest of your fans about your work being top notch and I thank you for raising the bar that much higher. George, with admiration for the author
