Matthew Bresley Poems

As the soldier crawls in his bunk, after a long day in the sand,
Fighting for our freedom, in a place called Afghanistan,

He thinks about his wife at home, his children in their beds,
...

A soldier packs his bags and says good bye once again, he kissed his wife and children his duty never ends,

He swore his life to service, his boots are all he knows, with tears streaming down their face his children watch him go,
...

A soldier is the reason our children can go and play
A soldier is the cause for their daddy's raise in pay

We never think about it yet it happens everyday

Soldier Silent Burden

As the soldier crawls in his bunk, after a long day in the sand,
Fighting for our freedom, in a place called Afghanistan,

He thinks about his wife at home, his children in their beds,
He hopes they know he loves them, he hopes to see them again,

As he lies there trying to sleep, a tear rolls from his eyes,
He hears his daughters little voice, daddy please don't go bye bye,

He had to force her arms away, and aas he walked outside,
He heard her scream and cry " daddy I don't want you to die! "

It broke his heart it hurt him, they could never understand,
His wife she smiled weakly "write us if you can"

He'd give anything to see them "O'God this isn't fair"
He is an American soldier; and the burden is his to bear,

The hours he has to sleep can be counted on one hand,
Yet the only thing you'll hear him say is "Another day in the sand"

God has made them special, their Honor will ensure,
That America's dream will cast it's light, so the world can endure,

I ask you to say this phrase as you go about your day,
"I thank you for the life I have, I know the price that must be paid"
