The brothers were breathing fire,
With their hearts full of desire
They built the greatest Hindu empire,
Which, the whole world would admire.
Kingdom of peace and heaven, the plan
Put forth by a learned man
Carried out by brothers of the Kuruba clan,
Empire, was built within a short span
People as brave as they were
Fought their enemies without fear
Till peace was brought to Vijayanagar
The ‘City of Victory’, as they called her.
Her enemies were torn apart,
Peninsular India in its chart
She lived in peoples heart,
The golden age was about to start.
The city was full of diamonds and gold
In the bazaars and streets they were sold,
Might of the empire began to unfold
Nobody could keep it on hold
The legend spread far and wide
Like a mighty colossal tide.
Now, long gone is the empire of pride
Changing history, for us to abide.

A fitting and nostalgic tribute on the occasion of the quincentenary of the great Sri Krishna Deva Raya's coronation.
Vikram I feel fortunate to read your poetry. How could u condense the Harihara/Bukkaraya story in such small poem. You are simply great.Keep writing such nice epics of Indian History/Purana. I wanna read more of you With heartfelt regards, sathya

This poem is definitely a tenner. I just don't know why the below readers did not give it all tens? Excellent poem and story. I loved it. God bless all poets and readers alike-MJG.
...sets my mind a-spinning dreaming away into those golden days, me being a German, a lover of India, living in a land (Mindanao, Philippines) where the tongue the local people speak is called Visayan - named so in connotation to the Vijayanagar Empire?
