luminescent eyes stared back and revived
secrets held deep in a mind that’s askew
he whispered the names of those that survived
a smile that belied the things he went through
Innocent boys were political pawns
exchanging their lives for a field of mud
as guns raged aloud their loss did spawn
anger as comrades were showered in blood
All victims of youth with spirits held high
to battle they marched with their pride intact
unaware as they signed their last goodbye
as loved one’s stood watching their final act
Now vistas have settled and children play
With luminescent eyes we stand and pray.
