#242 Memory Lane Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#242 Memory Lane

I took a trip down Memory Lane,
Across the meadows of my brain,
And through the valley of my mind.
I searched land and surveyed sea,
Nearly giving up, then finally,
I found what I wanted to find.

There you were waiting in the dark,
On a wooden bench in the park
With a quaint smile on your face.
It’d been too long since last we met,
Long enough to make me almost forget
Our secluded hiding place.

We used to come here frequently
To love and laugh so carelessly,
We never thought it would end.
We would reveal our secret fears
And share our hopes for future years,
Without knowing our worlds would rend.

I loved to read you poetry
By Poe and Clare and Shelley.
Where did those indolent days go?
You swore you would stay forever,
Nothing could change that whatsoever
But then one day you didn’t show.

I waited all day, all alone
And night confirmed what I had known:
You’d never be back to explain.
And though I’ll never see you again,
You’ll always be right where you’ve been,
Somewhere on Memory Lane.
