#291 Half A Heart Poem by Jimmie Arrington

#291 Half A Heart

Is it ever worth it in the end
To freely give your all and all?
Is it fair to simply pretend
You haven’t and will never fall?
Is it right to keep deep inside
Wants and hopes and dreams of love?
Is it wrong to let high hopes hide
Like they’ve never been dreamt of?
These questions I ask are vague and unclear
And cause my soul to worry and fear.

I’ve thought it through and can’t deny,
I can’t give half a heart.
I’ve tried as hard as I can try
But can’t pretend I’ll never start.
I can’t keep it all concealed inside,
Even if I wanted to.
Who can calm a fierce ocean tide
Or stop the sky from being blue?
The answers I’ve found are simple and plain,
The smallest taste is worth the chance of pain.
