7. Life Poem by Daniel Cobb

7. Life

LIFE:
'THE PATH OF LIFE'
There are paths in life you must take;
Each thought is a choice that you make.
Facing difficult decisions in your youth,
You try so hard to find the truth.
Now you must go back again;
How many steps have you taken in vain?
If you leave truth, then you shall know
The evil of your doing so!

Look at the danger you're in,
How numerous your foes.
There are so many ways to sin;
No living mortal knows.
The trap is there - the snare is set;
You didn't fall into it yet.
But soon you will land in the net,
If faith you forget.

Nobody can do everything,
But everyone can do something.
Behold the vain efforts of man,
To do things no one can.
Let us leave such to their own choice,
Those who wouldn’t hear wisdom's voice.
We each journey down different roads;
Each one has to bear their own load.

Nobody can make time stand still;
We never have - we never will.
How pathetic is our power;
We can't add another hour.
There's still so much at stake,
So open your eyes - stay awake!
The choice is yours to make;
So what path will you take?

'PASSING BEAUTY'
In the ground, I have grown
My soul, like a seed, has been sown.
Through time and space I’ve blown,
But I am not my own.
I've longed for gain in vain;
For flesh fades like the grass.
There is purpose in my pain;
Let this pleasure pass.

After winter comes spring,
To breathe new life in everything.
In the springtime, flowers will bloom;
Then winter comes, bringing them doom.
Like a flower in its season,
Life is taken for no reason.
If not for falling asleep at night,
We'd never wake up to see the sunlight.

Like a dying dream,
Or a rainbow's last brilliant beam.
We're brought to life, but then we die,
Without ever knowing why.
Beauty comes and goes;
After the storm, there are rainbows.
Life is like a withering rose;
It's a passing shadow.

'TORN BETWEEN TWO WORLDS'
The mystery of history;
At last, it all makes sense to me.
It takes patience to watch a growing fern;
Love is a lesson that takes a lifetime to learn.

Even if it exists only in my heart and mind,
I'd give anything to leave this world behind.
Like beautiful bubbles and baby butterflies,
For one magic moment, I see it with my eyes.

I can't believe how long this is taking;
I guess I'm a masterpiece in the making.
Most people put their trust in temporary things;
My hope is in the King of Kings.

This life is temporary;
So look past what you see into eternity.
I'm not out of touch with reality;
I've just got my eyes on eternity.

'THIS IS ONLY A TEST'
Life is a test you have to take;
You pass or fail by the choices that you make.
Life means a lot to those who would
Use it the way they know they should.

Life is never as easy as it looks;
You can't learn everything from books.
The truth may be just out of reach;
There are some lessons no man can teach.

Even when you think nobody cares,
Remember that someone is always there.
Hold on to those you love and cherish;
You never know when they'll perish.

Your dreams are far - don't fear the distance,
Taking the path of least resistance.
Only you can make your dreams come true,
So just do what you have to do.

'ETERNAL EQUATION'
In life, you have a destiny,
But you don't know your fate;
There are many factors
That you can't calculate.

There's no time to mess around;
You really can't afford to wait.
You hope that when you find the truth
It will not be too late.

If you can do the math,
Then find out which is the right path.
Each road in life - a choice you make;
Each thought you think - a path you take.

If you don't live the truth you see,
You'll miss by infinity;
If you're off by one degree,
An error for eternity.

'ANOTHER CHANCE'
I want a chance to change the past,
So I can face the future at last.
If I could just go back in time,
Erasing every careless crime.

But knowing that I never will,
It gives my heart and mind a chill;
For now I see how much I need
To trust You now while I can still.

I try so hard to understand
Why things don't work the way I planned.
Time keeps slipping through my hand;
Each day is like a grain of sand.

With this in mind, I have to say,
Life's tough, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
God will give me the answers I am looking for;
I know for sure he’ll open the door.

'GARDEN OF MY LIFE'
I used to have a window
Through which the world could see,
But now it's just a shadow;
It was not meant to be.

I used to have a door,
And once I kept its key;
Then darkness came inside,
And took the key from me.

I used to have a friend,
And spent days happily.
We don't see each other now,
And it's all because of me.

I used to have a garden;
And watched it well.
Then I lost interest in it
And let it go to hell.

'LIFE KEEPS GETTING HARDER'
I can see why,
As I look past each lie,
My whole life passed me by;
Now I just want to die.

Everyone's elated,
But I feel under-appreciated.
My life is complicated;
I'd say it's over-rated.

Now I'm lost in my fears;
I can't hold back the tears.
So one by one they drop;
I'm crying and I can't stop.

I was lost all along;
So I'll sing my last song;
I don't know what went wrong,
But this isn't where I belong.

'SO THIS IS ME? '
Why do I have to feel
If my dreams can't be real?
Why can't we reveal
What we think - how we feel?

I can't see past this pride;
Who am I deep down inside?
Somehow, I can't seem to hide
Who I am, though I've tried.

I've become something new;
This is what I'm turning into.
I was touched by the truth
Early in my youth.

Can you show me
What it's like to be free?
Each day, I play my part;
I fooled the world, but I can't fool my heart!

'TAKING LIFE FOR GRANTED'
We’d take truth for granted,
If not for the threat of lies.
We take life for granted
Until someone we know dies.

The truth is hard to find;
You have to use your mind.
You seek rest from your pain,
But is your hope in vain?

Every moment is enchanted;
You have to make the most of it.
Never take this life for granted;
It can be lost in an instant.

You did what you had to,
You did all that you could;
But now your chance
Is gone for good.

'BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH'
I place myself between
Forces of fate unseen.
I have paid a heavy price,
In a selfless act of sacrifice.

I walk between life and death,
Beginning and the end.
Before I take my final breath,
I'll see who is my friend.

I walk between light and darkness;
I stand before day and night.
The past is behind me now no less,
The future ahead, out of sight.

This light will defeat the darkness;
A star will shine bright in the night.
My dream will silence this sadness;
My hope will fill the world with light.

'THE LIFE YOU CHOOSE'
Life is like sand
The wind blows away.
Life is like glass;
It can break any day.

Life is a mirror;
Deep down you know it's true.
Everything that you do
Comes back to you.

Life is a lot of things,
But you can't tell what the future brings.
You want things you can't have;
You can't have everything.

Life is what you make it.
You can try to take it,
Or you can just give it
By the way you live it.

'A MOMENT IN ETERNITY'
I want to turn the page,
And write my life once more,
To break out of this cage
And shut the door.

I'd like to start over again,
Being everywhere I've been.
I would like to have a new life,
Seeing everything I've seen.

It seems so real - is it true what I see?
Or is this just a dream of what could be?
I could change, but I don't know how;
What will I do with my life now?

Today I am here,
But tomorrow where will I be?
I have a moment in eternity
To determine my destiny.

'LIFE GOES BY FAST'
Life is a test,
So do your best.
Plan for the worst,
Hope for the best.

Everything has a cost;
Don't look at what you've lost.
Try to see past the pain,
What you have left to gain.

Forget about the future;
Put the past in the past;
The time goes by so fast;
Let's try to make it last.

The pure of heart can see
How life was meant to be.
Don't let life pass you by;
You’ll make it if you try.
