A Broken Childhood Dream Came True Poem by Lynette Lawrence

A Broken Childhood Dream Came True

Dreams like lies,
watch 'em passin' by.

Dreams like dreams,
that never came true.

Dreams like you,
destroyed before I really knew.

Dreams like broken promises,
that were never meant to come true.

Dreams are for night... right...?
It's just what other people told you!
So why don't we make the day the night
if we want to dream while the sun is shining?

Broke dreams, like cullets
scattered on the floor,
my feet are aching and bleeding
because I'm trying to find a path to a door.

The door,
the only dream
that somehow
still seems reachable to me.

Dream your dream
and go and play knight.
Mine was already fulfilled all the time,
I have been a princess all my life.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is everything, it's past and future, friendships, memories, broken dreams, a 'Thank you' to several people, conflicts, love and hate. This poem is like black and white, about something I still can't believe. It's very personal and somehow more than I could ever take.
