A Christmas Wedding Poem by Wakefield Mahon

A Christmas Wedding

Would Shakespeare and Keats strive to write
Mozart and Bach to compose
They all could not express my love for you
The artists all at once would fail
And so I will show you and give you my all
This Christmas, our first Christmas night

I looked at you in candlelight
Our love had just begun
God reached down and joined us
Two were now made one
Today as years have gone by
We join here to be wed
My love remains unfailing
Remember what I said:

Would Shakespeare and Keats strive to write
Mozart and Bach to compose
They all could not express my love for you
The artists all at once would fail
And so I will show you and give you my all
This Christmas, our first married Christmas night

He looked down on that blessed night
And knew it was the one
God reached down and gave to us
His newborn only Son
On Easter morn, He raised Him up
Our Savior was not dead
His love remains unfailing
Remember what He said

Would Shakespeare and Keats strive to write
Mozart and Bach to compose
They all could not express my love for you
The artists all at once would fail
And so I will show you once and for all
This Christmas, the first blessed Christmas night

Only one love surpasses mine for you
And that is his for us
So I entrust our marriage to Him
And sing you my chorus

Would Shakespeare and Keats strive to write
Mozart and Bach to compose
They all could not express my love for you
The artists all at once would fail
And so I will sing for you this song
This Christmas and every Christmas night
