A Colouring Book Lesson Poem by Jessica Penner

A Colouring Book Lesson

Rating: 2.5

A little blonde-haired girl was glad
That she was sitting by her dad.

She was looking through her book
When something caused a second look.

'Bad Indian! ' the girl said.
Her dad beside her raised his head.

He saw the picture talked about,
An Indian, there was no doubt.

His words to her were kind, yet stern,
But they had pow'r to make cheeks burn!

'No. No. That is no way to talk.
God does not like it when we mock.

God loves the men with feathers too,
As much as He loves me and you.

And, yes, some Indians may be bad,
But so are white men.' said her dad.

That little girl ne'er forgot
The lesson that her dad had taught.

Skin matters not; God doesn't care
If you're black, or dark, or fair.

God loves the men with feathers too,
As much as He loves me and you.
