A Confession To The Night Of Departing Poem by RIC BASTASA

A Confession To The Night Of Departing

it could have been as simple
as telling you i care
you are sick and i give you
your medicine and you take it

it would have been as simple
as telling you i love you but
it is not that, as everything had
become so complicated and convoluted

tomorrow morning you will be in
my room
i will not say any word at all

i will put my hand on your breast
as you will put yours in mine
so that you can feel the beating
of my heart

i will tell you, there is no need
for sex or even a kiss
or even a touch
i will cry tears for you and then
you will say goodbye.

i will not tell you that i will
forget you
i will not say any word at all.

we know how we fit not.
we know how we are not destined
for each other.

you will leave but i will stay.
you may forget me but i will not.
