A Devastating Loss Poem by Ray Hansell

A Devastating Loss

Rating: 5.0

Two little children
Born premature
Their survival
Was unsure

Born too soon
A girl and boy
But still they were
Such a joy

Their fragile bodies
To weak to fight
I faced the long
Days and nights

The doctors said
It was best
To let them go
To their final rest

That was the choice
That was made
There was no way
They could be saved

I think about them
Now and again
But most of all
I remember when

Two years later
My son was born
His birth helped me
To no longer morn

What a journey
It has been
You deal with a loss
Celebrate with a win

The greatest tearjerkers ever penned are often the true stories. What bravery to have experienced such a profound loss, and emerge to continue to carry on.
