A Different Sunshine Poem by Paul Hartal

A Different Sunshine

A winter sun smiles
from the blue sky.
The earth seems to revel
in the friendly, albeit cold light.
But these amiable sun rays
differ from the daylight
of past years and yesterdays,
laments a poet.
They might beam and emit
a similar radiance
yet proffer a different cadence;
it is not the same luminosity,
not the same experience.
For this friendly light
hides lurking perils, a raging war,
at our own door
as authorities convulse and soldier
and have faltered
in the present fight
against a microscopic monster
that sickens and destroys lives
and has radically altered
the human plight.
