A Falling Out Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

A Falling Out

Someone told me about the way you flirt
With other men when I'm away,
Yes, they've been digging up the dirt
And blackening your name with what they say -
I can shrug my shoulders about that, what really hurt
Is the knowledge that you laugh when I'm not there
And say I am a fool - it isn't fair
To criticize a person because they care
Too much. I feel a lot of shame
Because it's nothing more than just a game
To you. Even a man like me has got some pride!
You should apologise for how you've lied
And joked at my expense!
You've really messed me up inside,
Demolishing my confidence.
Do you think you're very smart?
Do you want another piece of my heart?
Go on and tear me completely apart! !
Then when you've had your fun
You can look right down this barrel of a gun! !
