A Good Morning Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

A Good Morning

wake up and watch the ceiling
out of water to weep with
get up, turn on the TV
the world is dead on CNN
breakfast tastes like ash
that's what you said i am
i am all i have
isn't it good to be lonely?

sit here, sit here
stare at the walls
empty heart, home
and i chant
i am nothing
i am nothing
i am

shower to wash off the stench
of nightmares
it isn't all in my head
the coffee is laughing
i will smoke two cigarettes
one for death now and
one for those i never met
i'm sorry we won't have
a chance

sit here, sit here
stare at the walls
empty heart, home
and i chant
i am nothing
i am nothing
i am

i am not real, i'm gray and nothing
things become less inside me
a draining death,
should be so lucky
an open wound,
i'm promising

and i chant
i am nothing
i am nothing
i am

i ask you, walls
forget me
hold my hurt
forgive me
i must convince myself
i am nothing i am nothing i am nothing i am...i am
