A Halloween Night Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

A Halloween Night

Mournful groans of ghosts
are heard from under white sheets
drape over unidentifible heads...
Freaky monsters terrify with leniency
as mummies wrapped
in gauze rise from
from the dead

A screeching owl beneath
the glow of a crescent moon
warns of heckling witches
flying on high altitude brooms

Before you think to run
and hide…remember it is
Halloween night
No need to tremble
with fearful fright

The chilly night encourages
pumpkins with orange hulls
and carved candle lit faces
to guide the way….
eagerly displaying
smiles with toothless spaces

The rustle of fallen leaves
gives a telltale warning
as they crackle under feet
It is time to prepare
and welcome little beggars
who shout 'Trick or Treat! '
