A Key To Poetry Poem by Ellie Sutton

A Key To Poetry

Since when was writing poetry
Reserved for a minority
Or given rules set out in stone
Which stifle wit
Just a bit.
Though only my view it may be
The key to decent poetry?
Don’t become a poetic clone;
And verse will flow
If you let go
Don’t assume alliteration’s always the way
Or throw similes in like you’re on to a win
To make a start
Write from your heart
Don’t fret about sounding ‘the part.’
Unlock your creativity,
And you will find that poetry,
Will tend to come more naturally.

...and please feel free
to disagree!
