A Kiss On The Cheek Poem by Srikanth Parthasarathy

A Kiss On The Cheek

She had decided to leave me,
For someone better,
Someone more powerful.

Take these – She said.
I don’t need these.
Returning my gifts,
My token of love for her

With a smile, her face shined,
I smiled politely back,
A fake one, my heart whined.

My legs trembled,
I sat down.
How could she leave me?
I always considered her my own.
Didn’t she see I needed her?

She leaned closer,
And My knees went weak
When she kissed me on the cheek

I couldn’t hold it anymore,
Tears rolled from my eyes,
Don’t leave me – I choked.
She turned away.

I saw her starting her journey,
A journey beyond the realms of the world
Through the golden gates of heaven.

There she goes, Goodbye dear,
My wife of twenty four years
