A Lost Leaf Poem by Sunita Chandla

A Lost Leaf

Rating: 5.0

Lost leaf

Am I happy or drowned in grief
I find myself flowing in the air, like a lost leaf.
Bearing no might, feel so light
Drifted by emotions, on a blurry flight.

Pushed by situations, my journey is unknown
Seldom rest at a place, before find myself flown.

Once I belonged to a strong stout tree
I was too proud of my community
Weathered by seasons and nurtured with love
Learnt to be humble, under the huge sky above.
And here I shimmered in the golden sun
With joys in plenty, sorrows uncertain.

Safe in a haven, just any was welcome
Come one come all, questions were for none
Days and nights reduced to chatter
Friendly fights and squeals of laughter
All vanished in times to come
And we banished..one by one

Fiery words burnt it all
Gusty winds blew it all
Destiny spared none a fall
And I became lonesome of all.

Kith and kin seemed next to none
Some were helpless, some were numb
Silently watched me uproot and go..
Now how would I know, where the wind will blow

Winds changed without a thunder
God whispered, O! What a wonder
Grieve not for a closed door
For you a lot is better in store

Sons not may be born of you
Are waiting eagerly at home for you
Abundance of love and care is there
Such children are truly today so rare

Do your best and fear not the unseen
A cherished leaf always remains green.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
There was a time I felt very disheartened by how my own people behaved and left me alone to deal with things in life!
