A Message In April Poem by Obasuyi Ogbe Dickson

A Message In April

It was one beautiful Spring day in April
As I woke up to start my day,
The weather looking gloomy like it was about to rain,
It looked so calm, i thought it was a holiday,
O! Alas it's Saturday,
So  I went for a walk to keep me strong and in shape,

When I heard a voice I could neither display nor portray,
Whispering to me, 'What do you seek today? '
Show me a sign i asked the Universe and prayed,
Of my wonderful future i dream of everyday,
Then i saw a bird flying my way,
I watched and saw how it shook its tail,
As it said listen to what i have to say.

'To succeed and win you must overcome everyday,
Life is never for those afraid,
Pain is a gain you cannot erase,
Else your train of hard work wrecks in vain.
Love will come and may not stay,
Things may happen that you cannot tame or explain,
But that's the price of resilience you have to pay,
A value so key, you cannot take it away.
Keep some people far away, let them stay at bay,
They are part of your race but may sway your grace if they stay.

Embrace your mistakes,  Let fate guide you always,
Let your blood flow through your veins with no hate,
Or you become the slave who faded and ran away
Just when the wind of grace was about to blow him to fame.

I said to the bird I know this may sound cliche,
But my path is like a railway with stacks of hay,
So all i want on my way is a beautiful mermaid,
Who will be my companion as I sail through the waves,
Whose love and beauty i will not trade or replace
As our affection stays aflame, when we become gray with age,
No matter how much it fades or aches,
Whose ways will perfectly align with my ways,
And our story will always be sweet as a fairy tale.'

This is a great message i have received today, I must say
To God and the universe i deeply appreciate,
Then i watched the bird fly away,
As i looked again at the skies and it started to rain,
A confirmation to me of this new stage and phase.

My path back home I began to trace, that I may not be drained
But to save all i have learnt today,
Which I will always need as I await this new stage.

I am Ogbe from a land far away,
A land with the most remarkable stories to date,
A land with people filled with hearts of praise,
No matter whether they lose or gain,
A land ruled by Oba Ewuare the II N'Ogidigan,
A title created for the Head of State,
Of the Benin Empire, once headed by Oba Ewuare the Great,
Somewhere in the Universe called Edo State.
