A New Door Opens Poem by Natasha Almeida

A New Door Opens

A new door opens
Eyes greet me: smiling and sad.
I have to make a choice,
Move ahead, or step back.
A step back reminds me of the known
A step forward scares me of the unknown, the unexpected.
The framework of the door doesn't comfort me anymore
Questions hover, desires and dreams surround me
I need to reach out, embrace them before they vanish.
Surging ahead is being sane.
I do not want to burn nor stay cold
With age comes experience they say
I decide to plunge: no looking back for me.
If disheartened or hurt I will nurse my wounds,
When satisfied I will share my joy.
Without further delay let me step forward
And take life head on…
