A New Start Poem by Renu Beri

A New Start

The tiny droplets were welcomed by everyone,
Having come after the long reign of the sun,
A period of exhausting heat, dust and sweat,
How lovely it was to feel the drops wet!

The birds spread their wings and flew high,
The farmers looked smilingly at the dark sky,
The children played joyfully in the mud,
The cows complacently chewed the cud.

The pitter-patter transformed into a downpour,
The obscured sun could be seen no more,
The birds sheltered themselves in their nests,
Only two crows courageously flew abreast.

The farms soon flooded, the rivers overflowed,
The plants all submerged, the tall trees bowed,
Helpless humans watched the display of power,
Cowering on the rooftops or some tall tower.

The water was resolved to brook no obstruction,
Everything in its path faced absolute destruction,
A sodden grave seemed to be the destiny of all,
No one could escape the watery death's call.

The rains stopped; the dark clouds disappeared;
The peeping sun soon brightly reappeared,
‘Welcome, welcome`, was the cry of every heart,
Relieved to be alive and give life a new start.
