A New Years Resolution Poem by Alicia Mogollón

A New Years Resolution

my new year's goal

is to always smile at children

that I see on the street

the bus

the corner cafe

no matter their disposition

whether jolly or grumpy

or downright mad

and especially the ones

who peer out at me

with scorn

with distrust

and especially

especially

those next to a big person,

who's countenance reflects the same.

And maybe just maybe,

the child will remember,

a smiling face.
