A Night Before Her Wedding Poem by Alexander Raju

A Night Before Her Wedding

Tonight I'll sit alone, here
On the terrace of my house
Watching the dark, cloudy sky
For I give away my child
Tomorrow to a stranger!
Who can feel this father's heart,
Heavily tensed with unknown fears,
On the uncertain future
Of his daughter; his souls' pride.
We live in such a hard time,
Unexpected events turn
Our precious lives upside down;
Each one we find on the road
Is selfish and abnormal!
But I can't keep her always
With me, I must offer her
To a groom; let her make him
Immortal, as she made me!
