A Park Without Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

A Park Without

Rating: 5.0

It has a gentle flowing river passing through it
A lovely location nestled in the middle of a city
It is a prime place for festivals in the summer
Its entrance is now gated to guests; what a pity

If you want to enjoy the green grass and fresh air
Park your car elsewhere; walking gains admittance
No swings or slides, only trees and winding paths
Visitors enter the unspoiled realm with reverence

Some may ask, what is there to do for amusement?
No diamonds or hoops challenge competitive play
There are no picnic tables or grills for charring
Squirrels and birds pause to watch along the way

An inviting grassy mound offers a place to sit
A quiet view, free from constructed contradictions
Watching ripples in the river clear to the bottom
Refreshingly, there are no visual obstructions

Trying to improve on nature would be presumptuous
With a silent hush…this place is constantly giving
As sunlight flits among the leaves upon the tree
A restful sigh expands the lungs… validating living

Excellent poem Theresa. I can almost feel myself there as I read this. You're right, you can't improve on nature. Thanks, I love it. Richard

i feel for you. the same thing happened to our back home coast road. i didn't like it, it seems as if they're besieging the oppeness, the horizon, the sea. very much so. nice thought!
