A Passionate Love
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)
When I feel lonely and dejected,
When surrounding clamours abate,
When lovely peacock takes nocturnal rest,
When stars blink in the northern sky,
A passionate love nibbles in my veins and arteries.
I remember thousand bygone days
With unfulfilled ash of longings.
Many a time I bypassed with strong resolution
Poignantly earmarked gestures,
Squints of charming blue eyes
With sardonic smirks.
How shall I convince the world
That I cannot but remember
The whispering tune of a country girl.
Even in profound slumber
Her eyes dazzle like pearl
In the dead of catastrophic nights
When nightmare looms large
Silently she comes
Like a frightened bird
For a soothing touch
For a warm embrace
Consuming my sorrow and pain
She departs with a smiling face.
