A Poet's Worst Nightmare Poem by DiAnne Douglass

A Poet's Worst Nightmare

The best poem ever written
Was written by me
It was sparked by something phenomenal
A flash of insight I never knew
That I could possess
A work of art to be proud of
An inspiration to us all
This poem was filled with passion
Feeling and a soul
An understanding beyond my comprehension
Truly, it was my greatest masterpiece
I wrote such a beautiful poem
A poem that poets dream of creating
I wrote the type of poem
One can only hope to write once
In a lifetime
Too bad I forgot...
That the hard drive it was saved on
Was scheduled to be erased
What a pity! What a shame!
Now it is gone, forever gone
And I cannot remember a single word of it...

The world lost that treasure box of poetry.
