A Poetic And Shakespearean Tragedy Poem by Shaun Cronick

A Poetic And Shakespearean Tragedy

Rating: 5.0

How could it ever have happened,
That a queen was so short-sighted.
As the genius William Shakespeare,
Was overlooked and never knighted.

Simply because he had no wealth,
He didn't own acreages of land.
Never part of the establishment,
And so was ignored quite offhand.

And today we sing his laurels,
History telling what he's achieved.
That this gifted son of Stratford,
Needs no title to truly succeed.

Yes it's sad the way poets, musicians and artists have often been treated over the centuries...I'm thinking of Van Gogh...Mozart who was buried in a pauper's grave etc. Yet as you say, with regard to Shakespeare, he needed, ' no title to truly succeed'. It's an untitled genius inspired ten from me!
