A Portrait Of A Dalit Woman Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

A Portrait Of A Dalit Woman

Make I
Who lives in a hut,
Sleeps on the floor,
Works in the fields,
At home
And in other people's houses
As a domestic help
But even then
Unable to eat for two times,
Lives mostly on stale food,
Looks after the cattle,
The goats, sheep, cows
Whatever she has got to do
For living
And that too without the oil lamp
To live by light during the night time
Dressing poorly,
Passing her days in abject poverty,
Backwardness and underdevelopment.
