A Rose Among Thorns Poem by Jacob Muthoka

A Rose Among Thorns

Of all works His might can,
Thou art fair, fairer than gems
Those unique in many terms
Because thou art woman.

O that many beget thine virtue,
For then would I behold merry;
Thou hast acquired much splendour,
In few days hast been contagious.

Michelangelo would colour thee white
Thence would the world see bright;
For thou verily glitterest,
And around thee refresheth most.

O that I were a padre!
Then mine prayer to Him ascent
Thou to avert from contamination
For thy reservation exceedeth common.

O daughter of the sun and the moon,
Wherewith doest thou obtain flavour?
For long have I in this world sought
In vain to afford a shred of bliss.

But thine days are all gentle!
They are gentle and simple,
Conspicuous like a lovely rose,
Thou decoratest a world of thorns.
