A Shadow in the Dark

I find myself in a shadow in the dark,
A little bird perched in a storm
I see a big star among the celestial body above
Yet none find me,
I'm just a shadow in the dark
A fond figure in the crowd, with a yearning to fight
No time for glasses to find me,
I'm just a shadow in the dark
None see my face,
I've barely walked from place to place
A ferocious hound could not detect, any of my sounds,
I'm just a shadow in the dark
A blindfolded darling in an eyeless sea,
What they don't know is what I'll see when my eyes are unmasked,
And I finally, see me
No god or king could understand the dark shadows where I'll land
It's just a blindfolded space, hand covered in a dreary lace
I'm no longer a shadow in the dark,
But a girl in the shadow there to scrape and indict her mark

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
