A Soldier’s Lullaby Poem by B. V. Dahlen

A Soldier’s Lullaby

Sleep my hero. Safely sleep.
Home and cradled be.
In my arms and in our bed
Come and rest with me.

Feel the stillness and the peace.
No more fighting now.
Shells and bullets can not harm.
Ease your furrowed brow.

Let me rock you. Let me feel
Your heart close to mine,
Pleasure resurrected now
As we lay entwined.

Snuggle down beneath the quilt.
Nestle here awhile.
In our bed of memories
I will make you smile.

Life without you lost all joy
While you were away,
But you’re here and home again
Where once more you’ll stay

For only a brief interlude.
Regrettably it seems
You will leave me once again
Here with lonely dreams.

Sleep beloved in my arms.
Let me hold you close.
I will savor peace tonight
As you serenely doze.
