As he walks in through the door
He grabs up his little girl
Then thinking back to the war
Knowing this is what made it worth
A tear runs down his face
As he thinks back in time
When bullets flew so close
A nd when he could have found a mine
But he was one of the lucky ones
That didn't pay the cost
He fought to see his family
Now proud to know, it wasn't a loss
He holds his girl up high
As if for all his buddies to see
Show them they didn't die in vain
For this is still the land of the free
Now he sits her on his knee
And holds her a little bit tighter
For he has just got home, but
His world world got so much brighter
He runs his fingers through her curly brown hair
As he looks into her pretty brown eyes
And he knows the day is coming
He'll have his hands full with some young guys
He just sits and holds her
Like it's the end of the world
Like no one else existed
Except for him and his baby girl
Now he thinks back in time
To when he was back in Iraq
Him and some buddies got stranded
Living in a make shift shack
Yet all he could hope or pray for
Was to see his girl once again
But that's what kept him going
Was the hope to hold her once again
So should you get down and out
Just you remember these words my friend
That hope may help guide you
But love and prayer will see you till the end
