A Spider City Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

A Spider City

Rating: 5.0

I created a spider city
By letting spiders spin their webs
Outside my second-floor window
In the shade of dusk to dawn light.

There are different web sizes
From the smallest to biggest ones
From small huts in city outskirts
To big castle of a queen's court.

One can match one spider's web size
With its power and belly size.
These spiders span their webs with pride:
A hung city well organized.

Several times, their city was torn
By pouring rains and windy storms
Just like Katrina, Maria
Left behind towns and beaches torn.

Resiliently, they rebuilt
By spinning their webs night and day.
I've not seen a web-less spider
They span their webs with all they had.

They chose the best place for their webs:
Every night, when night light turned on
These spiders were ready to feast
As their nets trapped many insects.

I watch them behind window glass:
They await, they feast and they dance.
Every night is their party time
A spider city of night life!

Well thought out but whimsical poem. It's fun to read! I especially liked the line from small huts in city outskirts to big castle of a queen's court. Describes resilience and determination and a sense of unity when it comes to rebuilding. Nicely done!
