A Starry Seer Poem by Nicarchus

A Starry Seer

A starry seer's oracular abodes
One sought, to know if he should sail for Rhodes,
When thus the sage, 'I rede thee, let thy ship
Be new, and choose the summer for thy trip;
Safe then thou'lt leave, and save regain this spot,
If those confounded pirates catch thee not.'

translated by Richard Garnett
