A Tragedy Un-Prevented Poem by Amanda Sch

A Tragedy Un-Prevented

Rating: 5.0

The robin sits on her fence, perched with her red chest facing toward the blue sky so perfectly,
She sings her charming song to wake the sun as she has done every other dawn,
The flowers open their pedals as the sun rises and as the robin still whistles so sweetly,
I peer out my window to see what the new day brings, and in the meadow I see a fawn,
He’s prancing about, not worried that his mother is gone or that there’s a hunter around,
It’s nice to believe that he has a chance in this world without a soul to protect him,
But the truth is that he will soon be shot with a bullet or some disease and fall to the ground,
His death is expected but his pain will never be understood, not even by his kin,
Fear engulfs his essence even though he appears to be strong and confident,
When really he isn’t ready to face death; he isn’t ready to lose his beauty,
I can empathize with him because in my heart there is too a dent,
Without my hair and with my body so pale there is no one to tell me I’m beautiful or say “hey cutie, ”
He lost his mother without a warning or a sign to help him prepare for the tragedy,
I lost my time, my time on this planet of life and love; Cancer will be the foe to take me away,
Tears will fall, heartache will be felt, and at my funeral they will say, “What a pity? ”
I don’t want to say goodbye or be felt sorry for; all I want to do is stay!
