A Tribute. Poem by Pukar Dhital

A Tribute.

When I first met you, you were there among your friends looking as best as you could!
I approached you, liked you and then began our friendship.
My every morning started with you
And until I bade you goodnight.

You were quick, loyal and biddable with manoeuvrability so great,
And never were we slow
Instead we always sped up and up!
Irrespective of weather; stormy, winter, summer, rainy or even in lightless night
Never did you falter accompanying me!
Some friends of yours were higher in class,
But we proved them what you and I were all about
And always we did, we beat them down!

Our famous journey has become a history
Never to be written down in a golden script
And never to be read by tots at school!
So be it, I don't quite care because it's printed in my mind and heart
And never will I forget!
Our aggregated journey was enough to circle round the earth
For we always travelled, travelled and travelled….! ! !

You came in my life when I was a Boy
and served me till those early years of my manhood!
But such an impact you have made
That always will you remain in my heart
As my True Companion!
But Alas! Never did I know your life was so short
For I still remember that wretched day you left me all alone!

Your handle and the front tyre got apart and you broke in half
Connected only by your brake wires!
Like a loyal horse serving his master until his last breathe,
You served me until the last moment of your life! !
With due respect I dragged you by the side of a road!
I saluted you and admired you and still I do,
For your company and loyalty that was beyond any admiration!
I have not wasted my tears in your grief and for your misfortune
For I don't want to insult your deceit less service to me!

You shared with me my every moment
Loneliness, happiness and also my grief!
You took me where I wanted to be
And showed me diverse colours of Nature!

And do not think I have forgotten you my dear brown bicycle my friend!
Because always will I remember
ATLAS TANGO was your name!
