A Warm Day In January

The paddock is bare and the creek almost dry
And all through the day the sun burns in the sky
And yesterday's rain it has dried off of the ground
And the little bush flies they keep buzzing around.

Too warm for them in the sun and only a slight breeze
The sheep they stand huddled in the shade of the trees
Perhaps they are meant for where climates are cool
This sort of weather on their kind must be very cruel.

Though yesterday it made an hour of heavy rain
Still not one dropp of water in the roadside drain
In those brown and bare paddocks nothing seems to grow
And the creek in a trickle to the river flow

A warm day in January over thirty degrees
And the sheep shelter from the sun in the shade of the trees
Though this countryside could do with a week's rain or two
To change Nature's ways nothing humans can do.
