Across The Distance
Across the river that separated us
I built a bond to try and reach you,
I could not stop the river from flowing,
but I could build a bridge safe and strong.
Across the time that spanned between us
I told a story that was ageless,
I could not turn back the hands of the clock,
but I could make our story limitless.
Across the space that divided us
I reached out my hand to hold you.
I could not close the gap between us,
but I could fold my hands in prayers.
Across the cold night air between us,
I sent my love to try and warm you.
I could not lift the chill of the evening,
but I could feel your fire through it.
