Acrostic, M. M. C. Poem by Benjamin Cutler Clark

Acrostic, M. M. C.

Meekly, at an important post
Obey thy Maker—Lord!
Regardless of a scornful host,
Declare His truth abroad.
Endeavor to sustain the right,—
Constant, true, and clear;
Ask Him to aid you by His might,
In goodness persevere!

Make it a point to help the poor,
And succour the oppress'd;
Never consent to bar their door,
Nor give their tyrants rest.
Alone! you cannot be alone!
Since truth is always nigh,
So persevere! assur'd that One
Above, still reigns on high!

Call'd to defend a brother's cause,
Let heart, and tongue, and pen,
And conscience, plead that righteous laws
Remain to govern, then
Keep thou in view the right.—Amen!
