After Awhile

It seems like forever
yet so short a time
seeing your smiling face in the day
Whispering Good-bye in the cold night

Your sufferings have come to an end
A mere chapter closed in your life
for Death is only the beginning
The beginning of a new story
and a new song
where your sorrows cease
yet for me they go on
through the many memories

The last tear that you cried
your only way to say Good-bye
as you gazed into your loved one's eyes

As a mighty patriarch
you said your last words
and gave up the ghost
yet the one thing you desired the most
was our peace
our calm serenity

Your compassion
reached to the depths of souls
I can't and I won't let you go....

Your sense of humor through it all
made many smile
it is hard to say good-bye
though I know I shall see you again
after awhile
