Afterglow Poem by bob barci

Afterglow

Rating: 5.0

I spent the day inside at work.
A radio somewhere
informs me of impending rain.
Early morning grayness says -
“Yes, it will come.”
So, every chance I get,
I pass a window to see.
A chore requires I go outside.
There, I find the rain -
on the light side, but steady.
A robin bathes in a puddle
the rain has created.
Rain.
It has me in that mood again.
Forget the chore
I was sent out to do,
I’d rather hang out and play in the rain.
Take in the cool, fresh air
and hopefully be a part of the afterglow.
I ignore and reject what’s expected of me.
I need this time for the rain.
I like to watch the rain come down.
Feel the cool, clean, freshness that it brings
and be at one with the grayness.
The rain eases to a halt
and the grayness brightens
into a soft, satiny, gray, afterglow.
