There she stands in silhouette,
There in shadows and sorrow
She stands, back to the world,
Hunched shoulders bearing
a heavy grief,
And head against the wall.
In her hands she clasps her woes;
Ragged shards embedded
In her trembling slender fists,
Her face against the brick.
She weeps for everything she knows,
And tears fall against the mortar.
Her fear sinks into the porous brick
As though it were nothing more
Than a gentle drip of dirty water;
She wept in silent, stifled sobs.
She wept,
Turned against an empty corner,
There she wept,
She wept against the wall.
