Agreement Poem by MARINA GIPPS

Agreement

Rating: 5.0

And if I finally agree in my old age to rise out to meet you
Might you still love me, or would I just be a shadow of a girl
You once knew when you were young
And the world was a very different place?

Why might I ask that?
Why might you not listen?
Why might I not reach out?
These are not necessary questions

For the self is not important,
And Love is not anything
Fathomable in certain terms
To the complex and flawed human being.

I was walking alone past your house.
It might have been yesterday.
I knew both of us were finally gone.
I knew then when I no longer felt tears.
