All At Once Poem by Natalie Frey

All At Once

Your heart feels like old cardboard,
Slowly collapsing under the weight of the tears,
That you allowed to overflow its edges.
You no longer bother with appearances,
How could any of them understand this?
The room just seems to grow around you,
Growing wider, deeper, in spaces,
And the faces are blending into the paintings.
You close your eyes in hopes,
To find that your life was just pretending.
But it's not,
And you know,
That it's real.
And you think, and you pray, and you feel.
