In the shadow moments, I
choke on
having chanted
the mountain
and the valley
journeys
from the knee and the blackboard ways
and the sun and the moon ways,
in the slow years,
because the upward trail
is heavy-shouldered and unspoken
and the angry rocks make my feet bleed tears.
