Alone Into Infinity Poem by Charlotte Peters Rock

Alone Into Infinity

She keeps a thousand dusty files
Full of nothing Out of date Out of use
since first they were collated
just in case they might be handy

-

Eight years old or so she saw
the film of people flying bravely
Propelled up into Space Standing on the moon trapped
Singing God rest you merry gentlemen on Christmas Day

Lifting off again One man crawling outside the spaceship
- fixing the danger - killed by a meteorite
Another - cutting off his airline - watching
as he floated further and away Alone into infinity

-

Crammed files line the filing cabinet
every cupboard drawer and table top
Hemming in her life to make it safe
Keeping out the Space where terror floats
