Am Almost On The Way Poem by Narayanan Kutty Pozhath

Am Almost On The Way

"Am almost on the way".
Angel on earth wrote,
Her last letter to him.
Lini was writing her
Last few words to him.
"Take care of our children,
I may not see you again,
Am almost on the way".

Lini, the nurse knew she got
Deadly virus Nipah from
her last patients whom
she cared as a temporary
nurse in the village hospital.
All night she cared
two brothers and sister,
suffering from fever.

She knew by morning
she got the deadly virus.
Moving to Medical college
and intensive care,
She saw her husband
for the last time
in the death bed.
She told her mother
and sisters not to see her.

She wrote her last letter.
"Am almost on the way,
Take care of our children,
Take them to Gulf,
Don't let them
Be alone like our father".

Lini is no more.
She knew she is going.
She gave her life
while treating her patients.
Death of this dear nurse
exposes the risk of health worker
in our environment
as we are not prepared.

Buried her body
with no last kiss
of the near ones.
Who will bury the grief?

Beautiful dedication to Lini Puthussery, who lost her life while nursing patients. Sad yet bitter truth of her life. May her soul rest in peace!
