An Ancient Statue Poem by Amgad Samy

An Ancient Statue

My life stands still
Like an ancient statue
In a barren garden
Where few leaves are gathered
Lamenting their pale colour
Regret being withered
Waiting for the coming wind
To blow them far away
From my boring destiny
People pass by so fast
Striking with no mercy
Inviting lightning to learn
How to destroy lives
Without leaving traces
A vague hope appears
When it suddenly rains
Awakening feelings and senses
Which are considered dead
Pouring out new dreams
In my deserted imagination
No one can steal your days
When you are still alive
Nothing can paralyze your thoughts
When your heart is still beating
Life might be a mighty ship
Controlled by tough people
But nature can give a hand
When it steers the wheel
