An Ending Interrupted Poem by Chris Haifley

An Ending Interrupted

Forced back to life, the sterile light envelops him,
Not the blue light he hoped for, nor the gray he expected,
But a light burning bright with the intensity of Life,
Brutal enough to see to the bone.

A gently rhythm, in his chest, by his side,
And a wailing from outside,
Slipping back into reality, he realizes what had happened.
The Outside force has taken control,
In an attempt to reconstruct the life he destroyed,
Suffering in silence, they never cared before,
Until it resulted in this.
An ambulance gliding through the night, to a fate much worse than before.

He came into the new world of white and light with a thousand tubes tying him down,
And not one around the neck.
Faced with a thousand new questions but none of them were asked,
Since his sanity was apparently so far gone,
(Not caring, never caring, and now they've ruined my crumbling world,)
Forced back to life, plummeted with shame,
Nothing could be so cruel and so selfish.
(Because sometimes the strongest thing you can do is give up)

With moist eyes filled with a thousand questions, she welcomes him back to the world,
Soft hand on his pale skin,
Her touch full of love burns him deep inside,
It's the (shame!) if only he could've gotten away,
This pain wouldn't have to be prolonged,
Bringing him back was selfish enough, and now all the blame will be forced back upon him,
And he asks, emotions running up his throat,
(How much longer will this last?
Until my soul will be able to run free?
The past will never go away!)
And though ignorance is bliss,
One can only see true beauty through open eyes.

But they force his eyes to close,
And live for (now) ,
Be (productive) ,
And know how to manage,
Shamed, he becomes a puppet on a string,
Looking perfect on the outside,
And trying to stay empty within,
For once he gets away, he'll leave this place for good.
Like a renegade flower growing in a strictly plowed field,
His plans will get him where he needs, with no repercussions this time.
No shame.

A light envelops him,
An incredible feeling,
Weightless, he opens his eyes,
To the blue light of Heaven.
